About 70 million people fought in World War II and, as of 2022, there are still approximately 167,000 surviving veterans in the United States alone. Only people who are (or were) the last surviving member of a notable group of veterans are listed.

The VA reports that 234 World War II veterans die each day. And with each death, another soul is lost who, along with fellow veterans, lived through a watershed period in this country's history and who helped shape the course of the nation.
Are there any German soldiers alive from ww2?

Assume a rounded-off number of 140,000 Americans were D-Day participants. Now, assuming that D-Day veterans have died at the same rate as other WWII veterans, we can estimate that 1.8% of the 140,000 are still living. That gives us an estimate of 2,520 D-Day veterans still living in 2021.

The First World War
The last soldier living was Frank Buckles, an ambulance driver on the Western Front. He was a part of the United States Army 1st Fort Riley Casual Detachment, joining in 1917.
Vessey retired on September 30, 1985, several months before the expiration of his second term as Chairman. He was the last four-star World War II combat veteran on active duty and, with forty-six years of service, had served the longest of anyone then in the Army.

The Draft and WWII

In less than 10 hours, more than 60% of the 6,000 British, Canadian and American troops who landed on the beach were either killed, wounded or captured. All of of the 28 tanks which came ashore alongside them – essential if the troops were going to be able to break through the German strongpoints – were knocked out.
During the day the few tanks that didn't sink will put out of action many German strongpoints. Altogether, 32 tanks were engaged but 27 were destroyed or sunk in the sea!
Roughly 2,000 African American troops are believed to have hit the shores of Normandy in various capacities on June 6, 1944. Serving in a U.S. military still-segregated by race, they encountered discrimination both in the service and when they came home.

5,000 dogs served in Vietnam from 1955 to1975— only approximately 250 were brought home. The dogs were considered "equipment" and 2,700 were left behind. 1,600 of those left were euthanized as they were considered of no further value.
